Deel is transitioning Payroll Operations to be powered by Deel’s own local tax engine replacing a third party service provider ADP in Canada for payroll tax operations. As part of this transition, the statutory filing and remittance process will be now done in-house by Deel payroll tax operations team.
The role of a tax specialist carries out several responsibilities for Deel’s EOR and GP business in Canada:
Oversee and manage the filing process for statutory remittances for every Canadian payroll entity (currently more than 250 entities and increasing).
Oversee and manage the remittance statutory payments for authorities (manage over $500 million dollars of remittance payments sent to the authorities a year).
Oversee T4’s and RL-1’s and manage possible T4 and RL-1 amendments.
Act as a L2 payroll tax representative for client entities for authorities such as Canada Revenue Agency and Revenue Québec.
Manage and control notices received by global payroll clients and resolve them in a timely fashion.
Ensure and avoid payroll penalties for deel’s global payroll clients and deel’s local EOR entity.
Ensure compliance through overseeing related quality assurance processes.
Work directly with clients regarding helping them with authority related questions.
Support with audits that Canadian tax authorities issue to deel’s payroll clients.
The role’s impact will enable deel to:
Ensure total compliance related to the tax authorities and management.
Avoid possibly costly percentage based penalties. As an example, a single penalty for deel’s largest Canadian entities can cost more than $1 million per penalty. In case where payments were accidentally remitted late (over 15 days) or under remitted in amount.
Allow deel to migrate acquired companies into deel’s own infrastructure. For example, currently Safeguard global entities (84 entities) rely on an ICP Vensure to manage their remittance payments. To migrate the acquisition company to deel infrastructure, deel must be able to manage the required tax operations.
Expand GP service offering to remain competitive in the Canadian market through provincial tax authorities management service.
This role oversees Canadian federal (CRA) and provincial authorities for deel’s payroll business including authorities in Québec.

Qualifications
2+ years of tax resolution experience
2+ years of payroll processing experience in a service bureau
Comfortable working with large datasets
Proven experience in payroll tax compliance and tax notice resolution
Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations
Proficient in G Suite, especially Google Sheets
FPC or similar certification is a plus
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
